Viking marks float out of new Nile river cruise ship Amun at shipyard in Egypt

Viking has marked the float out of its new Nile river cruise vessel Viking Amun during a ceremony at the Massara shipyard in Cairo.

Due for delivery in September, the 82-guest river cruise vessel will operate the cruise line’s 12-day Pharaohs and Pyramids itinerary, which includes an opportunity to visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, or the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Viking Amun’s float out marks the final stage of her construction, she’ll now be moved to an outfitting dock for final fit and finish and interior build-out.

“We are very proud of our growing fleet in Egypt, which we consider to be by far the most elegant vessels on the Nile,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “Egypt is one of the world’s most captivating destinations, and we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to this extraordinary region in the coming years.”

Viking Amun is an identical sister ship to Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek and Viking Hathor, with the same square bow and indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.

The vessel features 41 outside staterooms, all with river views, including a selection of suites offering hotel-style beds, spacious bathrooms, and full-size verandas.

Guests can enjoy panoramic views from the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, relax in the lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows, or dine in the elegant restaurant serving regionally inspired cuisine.

The ship’s Scandinavian design, intimate size, and thoughtfully curated enrichment programme—including lectures and excursions led by Egyptologists—create an immersive and culturally rich atmosphere tailored to discerning travellers exploring the Nile.

She is among five new ship’s Viking plans to introduce in Egypt during the next two years, bringing its Nile River fleet to 12 vessels by 2027.

The Pharaohs and Pyramids itinerary offers a three-night stay at a first-class hotel in Cairo and an opportunity to visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, or the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Guests then fly to Luxor to the Temples of Luxor and Karnak before boarding the ship for an 8-day roundtrip cruise on the Nile River, featuring visits to the tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens, and Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings, as well as the Temple of Khnum in Esna, and the Dendera Temple complex in Qena.

The itinerary also features the temples at Abu Simbel, the High Dam in Aswan, and a visit to a colorful Nubian village. The journey concludes with a flight back to Cairo for a final night.
