Seabourn sells Sojourn to Japanese cruise line, but 2026 World Cruise still on

Seabourn has sold a second vessel to Mitsui Ocean Cruises, with Seabourn Sojourn having been acquired for an undisclosed amount, joining the former Seabourn Odyssey.

Although the sale has been finalised, Seabourn will charter the 458-guest, 2010-built ship back from Mitsui Ocean Cruises and continue to operate all published voyages through completion of her world cruise ending May 15th, 2026.

Seabourn Sojourn will then be delivered to Mitsui Ocean Cruises and undergo an extensive refit before joining Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Nippon Maru in the Mitsui fleet.

The sale of the ship comes amid a fleet redevelopment by Seabourn, which took delivery of its two new expedition ships Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit in 2022 and 2023, and introduced a new class of vessel with Seabourn Encore and Ovation in 2016 and 2018.

“With this transition, Seabourn will have one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the business, perfectly suited to offer the private yacht-like experience that makes us one of the world’s most popular choices in ultra-luxury cruising”, said Mark Tamis, President, Seabourn.

“Our award-winning ocean ships combined with our two recently launched expedition ships give us the right mix to serve these important categories in the ultra-luxury travel market while providing our guests with special Seabourn moments in over 500 destinations on seven continents.”

Seabourn Sojourn is the second ship acquired from Seabourn by Mitsui, which purchased the former Seabourn Odyssey, a sister to the Sojourn followin the pandemic, and welcomed it into its fleet in late 2024 as the Mitsui Ocean Fuji.

Seabourn, like other brands in the Carnival Corporation fleet, has been selling off older vessels as part of the cruise company’s fleetwide optimisation project to maximise efficiency and earning potential.

“We are proud that after 16 years in the fleet, Seabourn Sojourn will continue her journeys with Mitsui Ocean Cruises. In the coming year, we will find special ways to celebrate Sojourn’s legacy with guests and crew,” Tamis said.

Guests and their travel advisors with bookings impacted after May 15, 2026, will receive a message from Seabourn with details on changes or rebooking options.
