Dubai Harbour to expand entertainment and retail experiences for cruise tourists

Shamal Holding, the property developer behind the Dubai Harbour project, has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan intended to further elevate the cruise experience in the region. 

Speaking at the Dubai International Boat Show 2025, Abdulla Binhabtoor, CEO of Shamal Holding, said that the upcoming projects are designed to complement and enhance the existing cruise infrastructure. 

He noted the goal is to create a comprehensive experience that not only meets the logistical needs of the growing cruise market but also provides visitors with unique entertainment and retail opportunities that enrich their time in Dubai.

The new developments will see expanded entertainment facilities and dedicated retail spaces designed specifically with cruise tourists in mind, building on the existing state-of-the-art infrastructure that has made Dubai Harbour a central hub for cruise and yacht tourism.

At the heart of these facilities is the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal, the regional hub for Carnival Corporation and its nine cruise line brands. 

The terminal offers modern amenities including streamlined check-in counters, spacious lounges, efficient baggage handling systems, and a range of retail outlets catering to both duty-free and premium shopping. 

Cruise visitors enjoy access to upscale retail outlets, gourmet dining options, and a range of cultural and entertainment attractions along the picturesque waterfront, including key tourist attractions and landmarks in the area, such as Dubai Marina, Bluewaters Island, the JBR Walk and the iconic Dubai Eye ferris wheel.

The planned expansion is expected to support a range of services for cruise travellers by improving maritime facilities to accommodate an increasing number of international vessels. 

Enhanced berthing spaces, improved passenger amenities, and a greater variety of leisure options will all contribute to making Dubai Harbour an even more attractive destination for cruise liners and their guests. 

The expansion aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of remaining a top destination for global travel and maritime tourism. The city is the primary cruise port in the region, alongside Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.

With the additional retail and entertainment options, cruise passengers can look forward to an integrated travel experience that blends efficient transit services with high-end shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. 

These new projects are set to not only boost local economic activity but also to reinforce Dubai Harbour’s position as a key player in the global cruise tourism industry.
