Rendering of the new Crystal ships
Crystal Cruises is bouncing back strong from its suspension of services with an order for two ships from Fincantieri, and an option for a third.
The luxury cruise line, which operates a fleet of two ships, was forced to suspend operations in 2022 when parent company Genting Hong Kong declared bankruptcy, but resumed services a few months later when it was acquired by A&K Travel Group and Abercrombie & Kent.
Now its new owners are investing heavily in the brand, with an order for two 61,800-gross-ton ships that will each carry 690 passengers, making them slightly larger than Crystal Symphony and a little smaller than Crystal Serenity.
Both the existing vessels in the Crystal fleet were also extensively refurbished in 2023, with a larger number of butler suites and reducing guest capacity.
According to a press release the two new ships will feature a host of amenities and innovative designs, ensuring unparalleled comfort and indulgence for guests, with delivery of the first ship due in 2028.
The option for a third vessel references a delivery date in 2032.
“This order is another milestone in the 40 years of productive collaboration between Fincantieri and my family that started with Sitmar Cruises, continued with Silversea and now is flourishing again with Crystal,” said Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Executive Chairman of A&K Travel Group.
“Our aim is to continue setting a new standard in cruising, offering our guests an unmatched level of service and sophistication. These new ships will receive the same level of attention I have reserve to my own house,” added Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group.
A standout feature aboard the new ships will be a promenade extending right round the perimeter of the vessel, similar to those aboard Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity, which are extremely popular with guests.
A variety of dining options will be available on both ships, showcasing a variety of world-class cuisines including Umi Uma, the only Nobu at sea as well as recently announced Beefbar.
Crystal will also continue offering exclusive entertainment along with a sophisticated casino that includes an array of gaming options in an elegant setting aboard both new ships.
Wellness and relaxation will be at the heart of the new ships, with a comprehensive Spa and state-of-the-art fitness center available to all guests, while families traveling with children will have a dedicated area for younger guests.
The new ships will feature all-suite accommodations, with private verandas including a popular single occupancy category, with veranda, designed for solo travelers.
Prominent architectural firms Studio Ibsen and Studio Gem will be leading the design efforts, along with a third international design firm that is yet to be appointed.
