Fourth Edge class ship Celebrity Ascent delivered by Chantiers de l’Atlantique

The fourth Edge class ship for Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Ascent, was delivered to the cruise line Wednesday by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France.

Celebrity Cruises took delivery of the newest Edge class vessel on the same day that they celebrated the steel cutting for the fifth ship in the class, Celebrity Xcel.

Celebrity Ascent will make her debut in Fort Lauderdale on December 3rd, sailing a 7-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary with calls in St. Maarten, St. Thomas and the Dominican Republic.

The ship will cruise in the Caribbean until April next year, offering 7-night Bahamas, Mexico and Grand Cayman itinerary, as well as 7-night San Juan, Tortola and St. Kitts itineraries.

Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty and Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge officially took delivery of the ship from Laurent Castaing, General Manager at Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

Following the signing ceremony and the changing of flags, attendees celebrated the occasion with a toast. 

“Celebrity Ascent is yet another example of innovation driving our mission to provide the best vacations responsibly,” said Liberty. “The ship continues Celebrity’s ambition to redefine premium travel and take it to new heights.” 

Liberty also thanked and congratulated the Chantiers de l’Atlantique team, as well as the Newbuild and Celebrity Cruises’ teams.

Celebrity Ascent is a sister ship to Celebrity Edge, Apex and Beyond, but features a range of design features and amenities that set her apart. 

Celebrity Ascent will offer the same outward facing design that maximizes views and outdoor areas allowing guests to connect with the world around them, along with a robust food and beverage program with 30 plus choices from casual to fine dining to satisfy all palates.

Entertainment experiences offered for guests will include a dance party called Ascent After Dark: Shine the Night up on the Resort Deck, as well as six new production shows, and live performances at Eden, Ascent’s three-story dining and social venue.

The ship will feature many of the passenger-favourites found across the Edge-class from the Magic Carpet and Rooftop Garden to Eden Restaurant and the Infinity Verandah staterooms, as well as a host of new dining, entertainment and relaxation experiences.
