The fourth Virgin Voyages cruise ship will be named Brilliant Lady, joining her three sister ships Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady.
Brilliant Lady is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa Italy, and is due to be delivered in 2023.
In a press release that strayed into hyperbole, Virgin Voyages said it carefully chose the name of its fourth ship to reflect the cruise line’s values.

“We sought out a name that exemplifies our brand’s values and ethos, the truest representation of our mission to ‘Create an Epic Sea Change For All’,” the cruise line said.
“As our goal has always been to create a bright and radiant experience for our Sailors — much like the sparkling seas Brilliant Lady will sail on — it was only appropriate that our fourth ship name reflect that,” it added.
The cruise line went on to explain that as ‘brilliant’ means both radiant and can refer to exceptional talent and intelligence, it fits perfectly due to the “duality of its meaning”.
“On every sailing, Virgin Voyages’ ultimate goal is to leave our Sailors with a glowing review and having enjoyed one of the best vacations of their lives,” the cruise line said. (Virgin Voyages refer to passengers as Sailors).
The name Brilliant Lady for the cruise line’s fourth ship is also a continuation of Virgin Voyages’ vocal commitment to female empowerment, a value that was established with the naming of Scarlet Lady, and the classification of all four of its sister ships as Lady Ships.
Virgin Voyages plan to initially bring four ships into service by 2023.
“In naming the ship Brilliant Lady, we also aimed to highlight the powerful intelligence of women across the globe,” Virgin Voyages said in a release. “Brilliant Lady represents the smart, thoughtful, boundary-pushing minds of women around the world — unafraid of owning their intelligence, aware of their importance, and confidently in touch with their own sense of self worth.”
Virgin Voyages said inaugural itineraries for Brilliant Lady would be announced soon.
With Scarlet Lady homeporting in Miami for the Caribbean, Valiant Lady sailing a range of cruise itineraries in the UK and Europe, and Resilient Lady homeporting in Australia from 2023, it’s anyone’s guess where Brilliant Lady will be deployed.
