MSC Cruises channels Norwegian with hull art aboard new MSC Euribia

MSC Cruises has unveiled the hull art for its new Meraviglia-Plus-class MSC Euribia, taking inspiration from Norwegian Cruise Line, which is known for its colorful fleet of cruise ships.

The work of German artist Alex Flaemig will adorn the hull of the new MSC Euribia from stem to stern and is intended to reflect MSC Cruises’ commitment to environmental sustainability.

His work was selected from 450 designs from 59 countries worldwide as part of an international competition.

“The contest to design the hull for our latest LNG ship was launched to help us communicate our unwavering commitment to the environment as this ship sails the world,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group.

MSC Cruises has marketed the ship as its most environmentally-friendly to date. She is the second of the line’s vessels to be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG) after MSC World Europa, and features an advanced wastewater treatment system, plus an underwater radiated noise management system to minimize the effects of vibrations on marine life.

Her LNG powerplant is also designed to later be integrated with bio and synthetic fuels as technologies are developed to lower emissions even further.

MSC Cruises has invested heavily in environmentally-friendly technology across its fleet with each new ship launch, and has publicly pledged to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Flaemig’s artwork – which weaves together underwater flora and fauna with a gradient of MSC Cruises’ colors – marks the first ship in the fleet to feature such hull art. It’s not clear if similar designs will be introduced aboard future ships, or if hull art will be retrofitted aboard other ships in the fleet.

Coinciding with the reveal of the ship’s hull art were the opening of bookings for MSC Euribia’s maiden cruise season. The ship will sail itineraries in northern Europe when she debuts in June 2023.

MSC Euribia will offer 10 restaurants and 21 bars, as well as a wide range of amenities, including a 945-seat theatre, 5 swimming pools, an aquapark, the MSC Aurea Spa, and the Carousel Lounge at the aft of the ship.

The ship’s 112-meter-long Mediterranean promenade is topped with an LED sky screen with animations throughout the day and night.

MSC Euribia will homeport in Kiel, Germany, offering a variety of 7-night Northern European itineraries, including visits to various ports along the picturesque Norwegian fjords as well as the vibrant port of Copenhagen.
