MSC Seascape takes to the water at Fincantieri shipyard

MSC Cruises and Fincantieri shipyard have celebrated the float out of the cruise line’s newest ship, MSC Seascape.

MSC Seascape was floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, marking a major milestone in her construction.

The float out is one of the final events in the construction of a new ship, with only the fit and finish and sea trials now to be completed before she is handed over to MSC Cruises.

MSC Seascape is due for delivery in November, 2022. She is the second Seaside EVO class ship to enter the MSC Cruises’ fleet, and the fourth vessel in the line’s innovative Seaside-class.

“The float out of MSC Seascape marks yet another significant milestone in the growth of our fleet and the vessel will pay homage to the oceans as yet another host of highly innovative maritime and design features,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, MSC Cruises.

“MSC Seascape – together with MSC Seashore – features some of the latest environmental technologies and solutions to minimize her impact on the environment, which will help us take a further step forward towards realising our ambition of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” he added.

Environmentally friendly tech aboard MSC Seascape:

MSC Seascape’s environmental technologies will include selective catalytic reduction systems on each of her four Wärtsilä 14V 46F engines to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90% by converting the gas into harmless nitrogen and water, plus hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems to remove 98% of sulphur oxide from ship emissions.

The vessel is fitted with wastewater treatment systems with purification standards that are higher than most wastewater treatment facilities on land, advanced waste management systems, ballast water treatment systems approved by the United States Coast Guard, the latest-technology systems for the prevention of oil discharges from machinery spaces and various effective energy-efficiency improvements.

The ship will also feature an underwater radiated noise management system to reduce and isolate the potential effects on marine mammals.

At 169,400-gross tons, MSC Seascape is a similar size to MSC Cruises’ Meraviglia-class ships and will be able to accommodate up to 5,877 guests. What sets her apart in the fleet, however, is her 13,000 sqm of outdoor space.

The Seaside-class ships have been specifically designed for the temperate waters of the Mediterranean and Caribbean, with extensive outdoor promenades, ocean-facing restaurants and cafes and plenty of pool areas.

Although she’s a sister ship to MSC Seaside, Seaview and Seashore, MSC Seascape has seen nearly 70% of her public spaces completely re-designed to enhance the guest experience with the aim of offeringvenues and locations that connect with the sea.

She features 12 different categories of balcony cabins and suites, including the highly-coveted aft suites, along with 11 dining venues, 19 bars and lounges with many options for ‘Al Fresco’ dining and drinking.

Many of these restaurants and cafes will be located on the 540-metre-long waterfront promenade.

The ship will have six swimming pools, as well as the aft infinity pool with incredible ocean views, which is a characteristic feature of the Seaside-class. High above the infinity pool, the glass-floored Bridge of Sighs at deck 16 will offer a unique vantage point of the ocean.

Aboard MSC Seascape, the MSC Yacht Club will be the largest and most luxurious in MSC Cruises’ fleet, with almost 3,000 sqm of space to provide sweeping ocean views from the foredecks of the ship.
