Regent cuts steel for new luxury ship Seven Seas Grandeur

The first steel has been cut for Regent Seven Seas’ new cruise ship Seven Seas Grandeur, a sister ship to Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor.

Seven Seas Grandeur is expected to be delivered in 2023 and will mirror the advanced levels of luxury found aboard her sister ships, which are the most expensive cruise ships ever built on a per-ton basis.

Seven Seas Grandeur’s steel-cutting ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy on November 2, 2021.

The steel cutting is the first step in the construction process, and marks the official start of construction. The steel pieces will now be welded together into prefabricated blocks, which will then be assembled to form the hull and superstructure of the ship.

“Seven Seas Grandeur will be a culmination of Regent’s rich history of providing discerning travelers unrivaled experiences with every imaginable luxury included, and world-wide, immersive exploration,” said Jason Montague, President & CEO, Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

“We are delighted to once again be in the hands of the talented engineers of Fincantieri, who will produce a ship of refined style, matchless elegance and breath-taking beauty,” he added.

Like her sister ships, Seven Seas Grandeur will carry just 750 guests, and will debut in late 2023. She is the third ship to be built by Fincantieri for Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Montague pointed out that the steel cutting for Seven Seas Grandeur comes just weeks after Regent Seven Seas Cruises resumed operations following the pandemic, representing a step forward for the cruise line and the wider cruise industry.

“We recently recommenced operations with the re-inaugural season of our newest ship, Seven Seas Splendor, and our incredible journey continues with this milestone as we begin construction of Seven Seas Grandeur,” he said.

“In two years’ time we will welcome the sixth ship to the world’s most luxurious fleet, which will exemplify our heritage of perfection with unrivaled space, unparalleled service, exceptional cuisine and transformative experiences that will begin the moment you step aboard,” he added.

Not much has been announced about Seven Seas Grandeur, but she is likely to be very similar to Seven Seas Explorer and Splendor, which feature 377 passenger cabins, all of which are suite accommodations, and all-inclusive dining establishments, including a steakhouse, a main dining room, and a convertible buffet-restaurant.

There is also a two-level theater and different lounges, including an observation lounge and a music lounge, while some of the suites come with their own spa.
