Sea Cloud christens Sea Cloud Spirit, its largest ever sailing cruise ship

Sea Cloud‘s largest sailing cruise ship, featuring balcony cabins, a spa, pool deck and more, has been christened Sea Cloud Spirit in Palma de Mallorca.

Sea Cloud Spirit is a modern iteration of the cruise line’s venerable flagship and oldest sailing cruise ship Sea Cloud, which was launched as a private yacht in 1931.

Sea Cloud Spirit has similar lines, but is larger, and boasts more of the modern amenities and facilities demanded by the cruise industry, such as balcony cabins, an expansive spa, fitness centre and more.

The three-masted full-rigged windjammer is 452.7-feet-long (138 metres) and carries 136 passengers at full capacity, more than double the 60-passenger capacity of Sea Cloud.

A bottle of champagne is smashed against Sea Cloud Spirit’s bow.

According to the cruise line, she offers passengers the comfort of a five-star luxury ship with the traditional seamanship of those windjammers that pioneered modern world trade in the transition from the 19th to the 20th century.

Conceptually, the ship is an alternative offering for all cruisers in the premium segment who want to forgo the large passenger ships and experience a more traditional voyage.

Sea Cloud Spirit is the third sailing cruise ship in the Sea Cloud fleet, joining the eponymous Sea Cloud, and her slightly larger sister ship Sea Cloud Spirit. She was meant to be delivered in August last year, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ship is the first sailing cruise ship in the Sea Cloud fleet with balcony cabins (Owner’s Suites and Junior Suites), and also features a library occupying the full beam of the superstructure up at the bow, with a main dining room aft, and bar and lounge amidships.

In addition to the main dining room, the ship also offers an outdoor buffet on the deck above.

Sea Cloud Spirit is due to sail her maiden voyage from Rome on September 14th, 2021.

She’ll sail several cruises along the Italian coast between Tuscany and Sicily, before repositioning to the Canary Islands from November 2021 to April 2022.

For the winter season 2022/2023, Sea Cloud Spirit is scheduled to cruise in the Caribbean and Central America, offering voyages from Florida to the smaller Bahamian islands for the first time.
