MSC Cruises and Fincantieri to develop new cruise terminal at PortMiami

MSC Cruises and Fincantieri Infrastructure Florida have signed a contract for the construction of a new cruise terminal at PortMiami.

MSC and Fincantieri will invest $415-million in the construction of the new mega cruise terminal in Miami, which will be designed to accommodate three ships simultaneously.

Designed by the global architecture firm Arquitectonica, the cruise terminal is due to be completed by December, 2023 and will be able to handle 36,000 cruise passengers per day.

The cruise terminal will be designed to handle the largest cruise ships in the MSC fleet, such as the World-class ships, headed by MSC World Europa.

While MSC World Europa is cruising in the Middle East after her delivery next year, her sister ships are due for delivery in 2025 and 2027.

The cruise line’s newest ship, and latest addition to the Seaside-class, MSC Seashore, is currently nearing completion at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone and due to be deployed out of Miami when she enters service later this year.

The cruise terminal will also be designed to enable all ships to plug in to shore power, reducing emissions in port, while many of MSC Cruises upcoming new ships will also be LNG-powered, further reducing emissions.

“Thanks to the Italian flair that Fincantieri will undoubtedly contribute to this project… this new state-of-the-art terminal will become a Miami landmark of style as well as comfort for passengers passing through what’s considered the cruise capital of the world,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, MSC Cruises.

“Moreover, it will serve as a platform to support and sustain the expansion of our cruise division across the region and in the Caribbean for years to come,” he added.

In addition to state-of-the-art facilities for passenger services, MSC Cruises says the new terminal building will include office areas, multi-level parking for at least 2,400 vehicles and a new road connection.

The project also foresees the construction of the related seashore infrastructure, including water supply stations and four passenger embarkation decks.

The new cruise terminal in Miami is the latest in a number of similar projects undertaken by cruise lines in Miami, including Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages.
