MSC's new cruise terminal in PortMiami will be able to handle 36,000 passengers per day
MSC Cruises has released the first renderings of its planned mega-ship cruise terminal in PortMiami as it pursues a greater share of the North American cruise market.
The new terminal will be capable of accommodating two of its huge new World-Class cruise ships simultaneously, the cruise line said in a release.

The new images were released in celebration of MSC Cruises receiving permission from the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners to begin construction.
MSC Cruises will design, construct, operate and maintain the huge two-terminal, two-berth facility, which will have a daily capacity of 28,000 passengers – equivalent to Dubai’s Cruise Terminal 3.

“With another 13 cruise vessels due to join our fleet in the next eight years, our ambition is to have our most innovative ship classes represented at PortMiami, bringing a wealth of choice to our North American as well as international guests,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises Executive Chairman.
“In particular, the new terminal – which will be one of the most innovative the industry has seen – will ensure that we can provide our guests an enhanced end-to-end high-quality experience while both embarking and disembarking, thus adding to their ability to fully enjoy every moment of their vacation,” he added, but didn’t elaborate on what innovations the terminals would feature.

Work on the new terminals is due to commence in early 2020 and is scheduled for completion by late 2022.
Once complete, all MSC Cruises Miami operations will be transferred to the new Terminal, according to a statement from the line.
MSC Cruises currently has more cruise ships on order than any other major cruise line (with the exception of Viking Cruises) and is positioning itself to emulate in North America the major market success it has seen in South Africa, the Middle East and Brazil (as well as its European home market).

The cruise line is developing a private island resort in the Caribbean for North American cruise passengers as well.
The World-class cruise ships, the largest in the world after Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class, will be homeported in Miami, sailing Caribbean itineraries year-round, while Miami was also the first to receive the line’s revolutionary new Seaside-class back in 2016.
This will change next year, however, when MSC Seaview, the second of the Seaside-class ships, will homeport in Dubai, cruising the Arabian Gulf for the full winter season. Later this year, MSC Bellissima, the line’s newest and largest ship, will also homeport in Dubai.
