The German shipyard Meyer-Werft has released new pictures of Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas, its second Quantum Ultra-class ship, under construction.
While Meyer-Werft was forced to reduce worker capacity at the yard and implement social distancing on siteearlier in the year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, work continued on the ship regardless.

The vessel has now had her huge sections assembled and is nearing the final sit out stage of construction head of her planned delivery in November this year.
While other cruise ships due for delivery this year have seen delays due to the pandemic, Odyssey of the Seas’ debut has not yet been affected.

Odyssey of the Seas will be a sister ship to Spectrum of the Seas, the first of the Quantum Ultra mega ships, which cruised from Dubai last year, becoming the largest cruise ship ever to dock in the city.
With a gross tonnage of 169,000 and a passenger capacity of 4,198 (at double occupancy), served by 1,550 crew, she will be a goliath of the seas, but will be one of the most environmentally-friendly cruise ships, with a range of features to reduce her carbon footprint.
These include an air lubricated hull to reduce friction in the water, LED lights to reduce energy usage, high-efficiency electrical appliances to reduce power load, window tinting to increase the efficiency of the climate control system and the latest and most efficient air-conditioning equipment available.

Royal Caribbean, when they first announced the new ship, said she would have the most action-packed pool deck in the fleet to date.
“Odyssey of the Seas will set an all-new standard created to deliver the most memorable vacations by combining immersive experiences, the best of Royal Caribbean’s trendsetting innovations and the signature ‘Royal Way’ service of our dedicated crew members,” Michael Bayley, President & CEO, Royal Caribbean International, said at the time.
Odyssey’s dialed-up onboard adventures include a two-level pool deck with the ultimate SeaPlex activity space delivering new thrills and a reimagined Adventure Ocean where young adventure seekers can choose their own immersive experiences across an entirely new layout.
A new maxed-out teen lounge with gaming consoles, music and movies will provide endless hangout options indoors and outdoors on an exclusive patio.
When it comes to dining, guests can enjoy the new Teppanyaki restaurant serving Far East flavors, and Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar with rustic Italian dishes and a contemporary flair.
Entertainment across the ship will be punctuated by high-tech signature productions in the Royal Theater and Two70, where art and multimedia merge for performances that will be available only on Odyssey.
Odyssey of the Seas will homeport in Fort Lauderdale, cruising roundtrip on 6- and 8-night Caribbean itineraries.
