Windstar Cruises reveals all-new spa concept for trio of refurbished cruise ships

Windstar Cruises has revamped its spa offering aboard its three all-suite Star-class ships, Star Breeze, Star Legend and Star Pride as part of their US $250-million overhaul that included being cut in half and lengthened.

The World Spa by Windstar, developed in-house but operated by One Spa World, debuted on Wind Surf, which emerged from her separate renovation in December, 2019 and will now be included aboard the trio of engine-only vessels.

Wind Surf is a sail/motor cruise ship with five masts for her staysail schooner rig. She is one of the largest sailing cruise ships in the world.

The three all-suite Star-class ships, however, are powered vessels that were purchased from Seabourn several years ago.

“We’re delighted to expand upon Windstar’s partnership with One Spa World,” said Peter Tobler, director of hotel operations, Windstar Cruises. “Now with the unveiling of World Spa by Windstar, our guests will be able to take wellness to a deeper level and partake in destination-inspired treatments with locally sourced ingredients.”

Among the spa therapies offered on Windstar’s ships is the Northern Lights Manicure and Pedicure, which includes a soak using seaweed sourced from the Baltic Sea, the Remineralizing Glacial Mud Body Wrap from Alaska, the Rosemary and Thyme Massage from the Mediterranean, as well as other regional treatments from Asia, the Caribbean, Iceland and the South Pacific.

World Spa by Windstar also plans to offer its guests a number of other wellness treatments like advanced facial therapies, aroma stone therapies, cleansing salt scrubs, massages and body treatments as well as acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.

In addition, the company invested into an improved fitness center, where experts will create customized programs.

The announcement comes amid a flurry of activity in the cruise ship spa sector, with Cunard Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas all having recently announced plans to revamp their spa offerings.

Regent Seven Seas has ended its decade-long Canyon Ranch spa partnership and launched its own spa concept, Serene Spa & Wellness, across the fleet.

Oceania Cruises has introduced the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center across its fleet, offering a complete and original collection of holistic wellness encounters both onboard and ashore, while Cunard Line is introducing a brand-new spa brand fleetwide in partnership with Canyon Ranch, called Mareel Wellness & Beauty, which means ‘phosphorescence of the ocean’ in old Norse language.
