Royal Caribbean will roll out Oasis of the Seas’ Adventure Ocean overhaul fleetwide

Royal Caribbean is overhauling Adventure Ocean across the fleet to bring its kids clubs and programming in-line with the revamped offering that debuted aboard Oasis of the Seas following her record-breaking refit this year.

The cruise line will be consolidating age groupings and adding new interactive and immersive experiences that are better personalized to each child. The most significant change that passengers will see will be the consolidation of two age groups into one for 6 to 12-year-olds.

Previously, there was Explorers (6 to 8) and Voyagers (9 to 11).

Adventure Ocean will create new names and age configurations for young cruisers, but the full details aren’t available yet. What is thus far known is below, courtesy of Cruise Critic.

There will be four age groupings serving babies, preschoolers, kids and teenagers.

Adventure Ocean Babies will be for passengers 6 to 36 months, Adventure Ocean Junior will be for 3 to 5-year-olds, Adventure Ocean Kids will be for 6 to 12-year-olds and the teens section will be for passengers 13 to 18 years old (previously it included 12-year-olds).

AO Babies will replace Royal Tots, along with Royal Babies and Tots Nursery, which were not officially part of Adventure Ocean and weren’t available on all ships. Now, there’ll be a play area for babies across the fleet with musical instruments, sensory toys and other free play toys. As before, dropping your child off incurs a fee ($6 per hour during the day and $8 per hour at night).

AO Junior will replace the Aquanauts and will offer interactive and free play toys, including a digital storybook wall.

The largest facility will be for the kids grouping (6 to 12-year-olds), they’ll have access to new areas including the Arena, a large open space for physical and interactive games, and the Hangout, which will have nooks, gaming consoles and interactive gaming tables where children can pick their own adventure.

It’s a difficult age range to serve well, with many parents having already expressed concerns about the feasibility of 6-year-olds sharing the same spaces as 12-year-olds, but its an arrangement that Disney Cruise Line has managed to execute well.

The new teens group meanwhile will get a new outdoor lounge area as a dedicated space.

Adventure Ocean as a whole will also offer the Workshop, with activities that are artistic, scientific and technology focused, and the AO Theater, offering a place for movies, theater productions and other entertainment activities, both of which will be open to children of all ages.

There will also be a Play Place, offering climbable structures for children to experience with their parents (there won’t be any supervision from the cruise line).
