Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas
Norwegian Cruise Line is making a number of upgrades to its Great Stirrup Cay private island in the Caribbean as part of the Norwegian Edge fleet wide refit program, and the biggest change thus far is the new Silver Cover oceanfront area.
Silver Cove is home to 38 private, air-conditioned villas ranging in size from studios to one- and two-bedroom bungalows, each with access to a private beach and the dedicated Silver Cove Restaurant and Bar.

Every one of the villas also has a daybed, a TV with on-demand entertainment, armchairs, an outdoor patio with lounge seating, and a full-size bathroom.
The one-bedroom villas and up also feature an expanded living area with a wet bar and a private master bedroom with king bed, while the two-bedroom family suite villas have a private dining area, a separate entertainment area and a large master bedroom with a spa tub and shower.
According to outgoing Norwegian Cruise Line president and CEO Andy Stuart, the Silver Cove area represents the next evolution of the 268-acre private island, which was the first of its kind in the Caribbean back in 1977 when the cruise line purchased it from an oil company.
“We were the very first in the industry to have a private island, Great Stirrup Cay, offering our guests a chance to enjoy the very best of an exclusive island experience,” he said. “Today, we are providing our guests with a preview of how Great Stirrup Cay is evolving and showcasing our vision for the future with the unveiling of Silver Cove, our exclusive beachfront area.”

Silver Cove joins more than 50 Great Stirrup Cay cabana and villa options spread out along 1,500 feet of shoreline.
Silver Cove isn’t the only upgrade made to the island recently. Norwegian Cruise Line has also developed a new oceanfront lagoon area, a new 3,000-foot zipline experience, a shoreside Mandara Spa and a Moet Bar.
In addition to the villas, Great Stirrup Cay is also showcasing a new oceanfront lagoon area, a new zipline experience that extends up to nearly 3,000 feet in length, a shoreside Mandara Spa and a Moet Bar so cruisers can unwind during their port day with a massage or a flute of Champagne.
