Norwegian Cruise Line opens new 1.4-acre pool complex at Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian Cruise Line has opened the first phase of a major redevelopment at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island in The Bahamas, including a 1.4-acre pool complex and a range of new guest facilities.

The newly completed area, known as Great Life Lagoon, forms the centrepiece of the island’s latest upgrades and includes a large, heated swimming pool, two swim-up bars, new private cabanas, an adults-only Vibe Shore Club, and Splash Harbor, a new water play area designed for younger guests.

The redevelopment also introduces a new pier to simplify access for visiting ships, a new Welcome Centre, and a tram system for easy movement around the island.

Great Life Lagoon

“Great Stirrup Cay has always been a favourite for our guests, and these new enhancements make it even easier for guests to trade the winter weather for the warm tropics,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. “With the fun versatility of Great Life Lagoon, and family-friendly spots like Splash Harbour, we’ve created an island where everyone can unwind, play, and make lasting memories.”

“This transformation is all about offering premium experiences and unparalleled guest services to our guests and giving them the freedom and flexibility to enjoy their vacation their way,” he added. “I cannot wait until next summer when we unveil even greater guest experiences with Great Tides Waterpark.”

The new pool area covers 1.4 acres and is larger than two Olympic-sized swimming pools combined. It includes a beach-style entry leading into shallow splash zones for children, while adults have access to the two swim-up bars positioned within the main pool.

The surrounding space includes newly installed private cabanas overlooking both the pool and the ocean.

Adjacent to the main pool complex is the new Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only retreat accessible by day pass, offering private cabanas, a dedicated bar, and beachfront seating. Nearby, Splash Harbour provides a complimentary splash pad for children, positioned within easy reach of the main pool facilities.

Norwegian Cruise Line has confirmed that the island redevelopment will continue with the opening of Great Tides Waterpark in summer 2026. The new attraction will feature 19 water slides and a series of large-scale water-based experiences.

Central to the park will be the Tidal Tower, housing eight major slides, including the two tallest slides in the complex. Additional features will include high-speed racing slides, spiral tube slides, body slides, an 800-foot dynamic river, a 9,000-square-foot splash zone for children, and Cliffside Cove, which will incorporate what the company described as the cruise industry’s first cliffside jumps and racer slides.

Great Tides Waterpark

In 2026, Norwegian Cruise Line expects 17 of its ships to call at Great Stirrup Cay, with the company projecting more than one million guests visiting the island across the year.
