Holland America Line has taken delivery of Nieuw Statendam, its second Pinnacle-class ship during a ceremony at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice.

“Today the Holland America Line family celebrates the addition of Nieuw Statendam to our fleet, and it’s a proud moment for everyone involved,” said Orlando Ashford, President, Holland America Line.

“Thank you to our partners at Fincantieri and our own team members who worked diligently to deliver the ship looking more stunning than we imagined,” he added. “Nieuw Statendam represents our continued evolution of adding exciting new experiences while maintaining the hallmarks that have made Holland America Line a leader in premium cruising.”

After a trans-Atlantic shakedown cruise, Nieuw Statendam will arrive in Fort Lauderdale on December 19th to begin her maiden cruise season in the Caribbean. The ship’s official naming ceremony will take place on February 2nd, 2019, in Fort Lauderdale.

Nieuw Statendam will be almost identical to her sister ship Koningsdam, but will feature a few key differences in addition to those mentioned above, such as a restaurant exclusive to suite passengers, which replaces the Culinary Arts Centre found on Koningsdam.

Aboard Nieuw Statendam, Holland America Line has worked hard to set suite passengers apart from the rest with special treatment and exclusive perks. In addition to the new dining room, passengers in Holland America’s new Club Orange program will also get priority embarkation and disembarkation, and a dedicated concierge hotline.

Club Orange is new to the line aboard Nieuw Statendam, but will be expanded to Koningsdam in December 2018, before being rolled out to the rest of the fleet.

Nieuw Statendam will cruise roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale to the eastern and western Caribbean until late April, when she will head back to Europe to cruise Iceland, Mediterranean and Northern European itineraries through the summer 2019.

She will homeport in Amsterdam and Civitavecchia (Rome) for these itineraries, cruising roundtrip until November, 2019, when she will return to Fort Lauderdale.

At 99,500-gross tons and with a passenger capacity of 2,650 at double occupancy, Nieuw Statendam and her sister Koningsdam are each the largest cruise ships ever built for Holland America Line, a company founded in 1873 in the Netherlands and acquired by Carnival Corporation in 1989.
