Newly-refurbished Silver Spirit will cruise from Dubai to Greece in 2020

Silver Spirit was cut in half, lengthened, and completely overhauled to bring her up-to-date with Silversea’s new cruise ships Silver Muse and Silver Moon, and now she’s going to be cruising from the Arabian Gulf to the Mediterranean in March, 2020.

Silver Spirit will depart Dubai on March 25th, 2020, on a 16-night cruise through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean. The cruise itinerary is lean by Silversea’s usual standards, largely as a result of the piracy situation in the Gulf of Aden, and the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

After cruising from Dubai, Silver Spirit will visit Khasab, Muscat and Salalah in Oman before making a run for Aqaba in Jordan. The four days and five nights at sea will be spent cruising at full speed through the Red Sea.

But at the end of it, the wonders of Aqaba, the gateway to Petra, await. While the majority of cruise passengers disembarking in Aqaba book the full day tours to Jordan’s spectacular rose-red City of Petra, Aqaba itself also has a lot to offer.

The beach resort city is a popular spot for divers with some of the best coral reefs in the world, and of course some of the best beach hotels.

After departing Aqaba, Silver Spirit will transit the famous Suez Canal, long heralded as the defining crossing between Asia and Europe.

“This is a journey that weaves the beauty of the Middle East with the beauty of time, adding hints of culture and cuisine as its superlative embroidery,” Silversea says of the itinerary.

After entering the Med, Silver Spirit will visit Ashdod and Haifa in Israel before arriving in Piraeus, the gateway port to Athens in Greece.

“From the unabashed glamour of Dubai to the more sophisticated charms of Muscat, traverse to the Holy Land for a pilgrimage worthy of kings,” says Silversea.

Silver Spirit will be conducting this cruise itinerary fresh from a major refurbishment. In 2018 the ship was cut in half and a prebuilt 15-metre (49-foot) section was inserted.

As a result, she has a 12% passenger capacity increase, with a dining capacity increase of 15% and a 20% increase in outdoor seating (from 200 to 266).

According to Silversea, the ship has been brought up-to-date with the experience guests enjoy aboard the line’s new flagship Silver Moon.

“This ambitious project will amplify the on-board features that matter most to our guests. We are taking our flagship, Silver Muse and Silver Moon as the point of inspiration for a fleet-wide renovation programme,” said Barbara Muckermann, chief marketing officer of Silversea.

“The lengthening and refurbishment of Silver Spirit will replicate the modern elegance of our latest vessel to make for a more luxurious travelling experience. We are eager to share the new and improved layout of our cherished ship with our valued guests.”
