Queen Mary 2 to cruise from Dubai to Hong Kong in 2020 with option to continue to Australia

The flagship of the Cunard Line fleet, Queen Mary 2, will return to Dubai in 2020, to sail a 19-night cruise from the UAE to Britain’s former colony, Hong Kong.

The British cruise line, renowned for its traditional, luxury cruise experience, is a regular caller to Dubai, but this cruise itinerary will be particularly special as it will come just weeks after the official grand opening of the QE2 Dubai floating hotel.

Queen Mary 2 is widely regarded to be the greatest ocean liner ever built.

The former Cunard ocean liner QE2 is now a permanent fixture in Port Rashid, the primary cruise port of the UAE, and was partially opened in April this year.

Queen Mary 2 will stay overnight in port in Dubai at the cruise terminal on January 30th, before departing the following day for Hong Kong. During the 19-night cruise she’ll visit 8 ports, including Muscat, Colombo, Phuket, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang.

The cruise from Dubai is also available as a 14-night itinerary that ends in Singapore.

But guests who want to truly immerse themselves in the Cunard cruise experience can book the full 44-night grand voyage from Dubai to Fremantle, Australia.

Cunard’s decision not to visit Mumbai in India during the Dubai to Asia leg of the voyage is unusual, given the growing popularity of India as a cruise destination, and the growing appetite in India itself for Dubai cruises.

Hong Kong, as a former British colony, is a popular port of call and turnaround port for Cunard Line.

However, Queen Mary 2 will visit Chennai and Cochin in India on her 2019 cruise from Asia to Dubai, and onward to Southampton.

The use of Dubai as a turnaround port by Queen Mary 2 in 2019 and now for her 2020 grand voyage comes as the city prepares to welcome as many as 1-million cruise tourists annually by the 2020/21 cruise season.

Queen Mary 2’s January 30th cruise from Dubai in 2020 will come following her major mid-life overhaul and refurbishment in 2017.

Carrying 2,695 passengers and with a gross tonnage of 149,215, Queen Mary 2 is the largest ocean liner ever built, and at the time of her launch in 2004 was the largest passenger ship ever built.

She is designed and built for trans-Atlantic and long open ocean voyages, with a top speed of 30-knots (8-knots faster than most cruise ships) and on-board retains the atmosphere and elegance of an ocean liner of old.
