Seabourn 2028 World Cruise returns to Cape Town for Ruby Anniversary season

Cape Town will feature on Seabourn’s 2028 World Cruise as the line marks its 40th anniversary.

The South African port forms part of Seabourn’s newly announced Ruby Collection, a programme of 54 ocean and expedition voyages commemorating the luxury cruise line’s 40th anniversary in 2028.

The collection spans the line’s five-ship fleet and includes itineraries ranging from seven-day Mediterranean and Caribbean sailings to a 120-day world cruise and a 96-day expedition linking the Arctic and Antarctica.

Cape Town features on the flagship 120-day Cape to Cape World Cruise aboard Seabourn Quest, which departs on January 7th, 2028. The voyage will cover more than 26,000 nautical miles, visiting 58 destinations across 23 countries and five continents, with ports including Antarctica, Easter Island, the Falkland Islands, and Cape Town.

The itinerary also pays tribute to the company’s history by transiting the Panama Canal, mirroring Seabourn’s inaugural voyage in 1988. Guests will also have the option of joining a shortened 112-day sailing between Miami and Lisbon.

For the first time, expedition-style experiences will be incorporated into one of the company’s world cruises, supported by an 18-member expedition team.

Alongside the world cruise, Seabourn Venture will operate a 96-day Pole to Pole expedition, sailing from the High Arctic to Antarctica via more than 20,500 nautical miles and 14 countries and territories. An 82-day version of the voyage will also be available.

The Ruby Collection includes itineraries across the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, Japan, Alaska, Northern Europe, the Arctic, Antarctica, Canada, and New England, while introducing several new ports of call and destination experiences.

Among the additions are maiden calls at Taichung and Tainan in Taiwan, Petersburg, Valdez, and the Chiswell Islands in Alaska, Tvøroyri in the Faroe Islands, and Cape Clear Island in Ireland.

New destination experiences include Taiwan’s Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, an eight-day Denali pre-cruise programme in Alaska, and a return to the historic Basque port of Red Bay in Canada.

The anniversary programme also revisits the company’s origins through its Yachtsman Collection, inspired by Seabourn’s launch in 1988. These seven- to 14-day voyages focus on smaller ports in the Mediterranean and Caribbean that are inaccessible to larger cruise ships, with extended stays and overnight calls in destinations including Portofino and Pátmos.

In the Caribbean, Seabourn Ovation will operate a series of sailings between St. Maarten and Barbados, including itineraries through Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. Two New Year voyages culminate with Seabourn’s signature Caviar in the Surf event as Seabourn Ovation and Seabourn Quest meet at Carambola Beach in St. Kitts.

Elsewhere, Seabourn Encore returns to Alaska with maiden calls at Petersburg, Valdez, and the Chiswell Islands, while expedition ships Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit will operate voyages across Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Labrador, and Svalbard.

The line is also expanding its presence in Asia, with voyages featuring overnight calls in Shanghai, Osaka, and Kobe, together with new calls in Taiwan timed to coincide with the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival.

The Ruby Collection marks one of Seabourn’s most extensive deployment announcements to date, combining anniversary celebrations with new destinations, expedition experiences, and a renewed focus on longer, immersive voyages.
