MSC Cruises to deploy MSC Armonia to South Africa for 2026/27 season

MSC Cruises has announced that MSC Armonia will debut in South Africa for the 2026/27 winter season, replacing her sister ship, MSC Opera, which is homeporting in Durban during the 2025/26 season.

Built in 2001, the 2,000-guest MSC Armonia will reposition from the Eastern Mediterranean on 1st November 2026. The 26-night voyage departs Marghera, Italy, and transits the Suez Canal before calling at ports in Greece, Jordan, Egypt, the Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Réunion, Mozambique and South Africa, concluding in Durban.

After completing her South African deployment, Armonia will sail a return 26-night repositioning cruise to Europe in April 2027, via the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, and Mediterranean, although that may change if the Red Sea security situation does not improve

Further details of her itineraries from Durban are expected in October 2025, but will likely include the traditional mix of 2-night cruises to nowhere, and 3-, 4-, and 5-night cruises to Mozambique Island, Pomene Bay, and Portuguese Island.

Alongside the deployment news, MSC Cruises confirmed a change to MSC Opera’s 2025/26 New Year’s Eve cruise from Durban. The 14-night roundtrip will now call at Diego Suarez in Madagascar instead of Mayotte.

MSC Cruises said the switch offers passengers access to the port’s vast natural harbour and distinctive architecture.

MSC Armonia offers a choice of dining experiences across its main dining rooms, buffet and speciality options. The Marco Polo and La Pergola restaurants serve traditional multi-course dinners, while Il Girasole provides buffet-style dining with wide-ranging international dishes.

Guests can also enjoy casual bites at outdoor venues, including the pizzeria and grill.

The ship features several popular bars and lounges, among them the English-style White Lion Pub with its extensive beer selection, the Bacardi-branded Red Bar offering evening piano music, and the lively Bar del Duomo, known for late-night dancing and game shows.

Pool Bar

Poolside refreshments are available at Il Lido Bar, while the Starlight Disco serves as the ship’s late-night venue.

Entertainment onboard centres around the Teatro La Fenice, which stages musical revues, dance and acrobatic shows, and cabaret-style performances, catering to the ship’s international mix of guests.

Daytime activities range from aerobics and dance classes to trivia and craft sessions, while evening options include live music, themed parties and casino gaming at the Palm Beach Casino.

For families, the Doremi Spray Park provides a colourful water play area for children, complementing the ship’s family-friendly pool deck.

Other recreational facilities include a multipurpose sports court, shuffleboard and Ping-Pong, with the Top 13 adults-only sun deck offering an exclusive retreat linked to the Aurea Spa.
