Doha wraps up 2024/25 cruise season with growth in cruise calls and passenger numbers

Mwani Qatar, the operator of the country’s port and cruise terminals, has wrapped up the 2024/2025 cruise season at Doha Port, Qatar’s primary cruise tourism gateway, with the departure this week of Norwegian Sky, the final vessel of the season.

Doha saw growth in both cruise passenger numbers and cruise ship calls during the season, marking its emergence as a key cruise destination in the regional cruise sector.

Qatar welcomed 396,265 visitors on 87 cruise calls, reflecting a 5% increase in passenger numbers and a 19% rise in ship visits compared to last season.

Marking the final cruise call of the season, Norwegian Sky departed Doha Saturday on a 7-night Arabian Gulf cruise to Dubai, from which she’ll sail a 14-night voyage to Mauritius and then South Africa.

This was the ship’s maiden call to Doha Port’s cruise terminal and concluded a season that saw a diverse array of international cruise liners calling in Doha, led by strong growth in luxury vessels in particular.

This highlights the trust of global cruise operators in the port’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and seamless services, according to Mwani Qatar.

Among the notable cruise ships welcomed during the season were Mein Schiff 4, MSC Euribia, AIDAprima, Costa Smeralda, and Celestyal Journey, all of which offered roundtrip Doha cruises during their homeporting seasons in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The season was further marked by the inaugural visits of five cruise liners to Qatar, highlighting the continued expansion of global cruise itineraries and the rising appeal of Doha as a sought-after tourist destination.

Mwani Qatar attributed the season’s success to strong coordination among all involved parties, which helped maintain smooth operations and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality, a testament to the port’s operational excellence.

Doha Port’s cruise terminal, managed by Mwani Qatar, is among the most modern in the region and is located just minutes from key attractions like the National Museum of Qatar, Souq Waqif, and Msheireb Downtown Doha.

Situated within Doha Port in the heart of the city, the terminal offers cruise passengers the opportunity to explore Qatar’s cultural landmarks even during short stays, significantly enhancing the city’s value as a leading cruise destination.
