Viking’s second newbuild of 2026 to be called Viking Libra as fleet expansion continues

Viking Ocean Cruises’ second 2026 newbuild will be named Viking Libra, the cruise line has announced.

The 998-guest vessel will be the second to enter service for the brand following the Viking Mira, and is due for delivery in December 2026.

They will boast all the latest innovations in the development of eco-friendly fuels and sustainable zero- emission power generation systems, and will feature the same minimalist, Scandinavian luxury characteristic of the rest of the fleet.

Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, Viking Libra will be the 17th newbuild delivered to the company since 2015.

Viking Libra will spend her maiden season in the Mediterranean before repositioning to Northern Europe, and will sail her first passenger voyage from Piraeus, Greece, on December 3rd, 2026.

This ten-night cruise to the Greek Islands and Turkey features visits to Volos, Thessaloniki, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini, Chania and Nafplion.

The vessel is then set to offer itineraries in the Western Mediterranean before embarking on a repositioning cruise to Northern Europe in early January 2027.

During the remainder of the winter season, Viking Libra will sail a variety of itineraries in the region, including the company’s traditional Viking Homelands itinerary, a 14-night cruise between Bergen and Stockholm that features visits to destinations in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland and Estonia.

With departures available through August 2027, the 54,300-ton vessel is also scheduled to sail to the North Cape, the Norwegian Fjords, the British Isles and more.

Viking Libra is the second of two vessels joining the fleet in 2026, the first being Viking Mira, which is also under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard. The 998-guest sister ship is set to enter service ahead of next year’s summer season.

In 2025, Viking is also welcoming the Viking Vesta, which is set to kick off its maiden season in early July.

With a gross tonnage of 54,300 and capacity for 998 passengers in 499 cabins, the ship’s will be slightly larger than the current ships in the fleet, which are all 47,800 gross tons and carry 980 passengers.

The cruise line’s ocean cruise ships feature two pools, a spa and fitness centre, three restaurants, multiple lounges and bars, as well as a theatre, sports deck, and retail area.
