Bahrain sees post-Covid cruise recovery with 106% growth in cruise calls for 2024

Bahrain welcomed several dozen cruise ships on 34 cruise calls during 2024, a 106% growth compared to the year before, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism.

The report noted that the Kingdom has recorded steady growth following the disruption caused by the 2020 pandemic, which shut down the cruise industry globally for much of the year.

In 2023, there were 16 cruise calls, while in 2022, just seven cruise calls were made. This marked the start of the recovery, as 2021 featured no cruise calls whatsoever.

According to the report, December was the busiest month with the highest number of arrivals at 12 ships. January followed with eight ships, while February and March each saw six arrivals.

Bahrain’s cruise ship season typically runs from November to April, with the port of Khalifa Bin Salman being a regular feature on the itineraries of cruise ships homeporting in the UAE ports of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

AIDA Cruises and MSC Cruises will both continue to feature Bahrain on their Dubai and Abu Dhabi roundtrip itineraries in 2025, along with a range of international cruise lines sailing out of Doha and on repositioning cruises via the region, with more than 100 cruise calls scheduled.

This growth underscores Bahrain’s position as an emerging tourist destination in the region and internationally.
