Hapag-Lloyd refurbishes 56 staterooms aboard cruise ship Europa 

The luxury German cruise line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has completed the refurbishment of 56 cabins aboard its ship Europa during her refit at Blohm+Voss in Hamburg.

A Trimline team from the UK was brought in to install new flooring, fixed furniture, soft furnishings and light fittings, to give the high-end suites a new bright and airy feeling.

Other contractors were responsible for upgrading the floor of the Europa Restaurant and refreshing the rooftop swimming pool, as well as other improvements around the vessel.

The bulk of the work done to the ship was technical though. Her Azipod drives were serviced, and a new underwater coat of paint was applied.

“The Berlitz Cruise Guide consistently rates the EUROPA as the ‘best cruise ship in the world*’ out. In order to continue to meet this requirement, we regularly invest in our heart ship. The Europa is constantly being maintained and modernised,” said Julian Pfitzner, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

A total of 56 suites in categories 6 and 7 were enhanced during the dry dock. Walls with stylish gray lines and light-coloured carpets now adorn the living areas, while the white wood finish of the furniture and an inviting sofa set new accents.

The floor in the Europa Restaurant has been completely relaid and sealed.

Golfers will also benefit from a new simulator, which Hapag-Lloyd Cruises promises to be “the best sporting and golfing experience in the industry today”.

Europa was last at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg in October 2019. At that time, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises revealed the new well-being dining concept Europa Refresh, which is geared towards holistic menus and mindfulness.

It includes nutrition workshops in collaboration with Dr. Anne Fleck. The restaurants ‘The Globe by Kevin Fehling’ and ‘Pearls’ also saw substantial upgrades.

Europa is one of five cruise ships in the Hapag-Lloyd fleet, she is the second largest after the newer Europa 2, which is the cruise line’s more internationally-geared cruise ship. Europa and her fleet mates on the other hand are exclusively targeted at the German cruise market.

A separate, specifically designated nude sunbathing deck is an example of some of the ways she caters to her home market. Other facilities on board include an atrium, casino, dining area, swimming pools, cinema and a gym and spa.
