Disney Cruise Line to name next new Triton-class ship Disney Treasure

The second cruise ship in Disney Cruise Line‘s new Triton-class line-up will be named Disney Treasure, and is due for delivery in 2024.

Disney Cruise Line made the announcement of the new ship’s name during the D23 Expo Disney fan event, biennial exposition showcasing everything new in the world of Walt Disney, the parent company of Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Treasure will be a sister ship to Disney Wish, which entered service in July this year, and will be the sixth ship in the Disney fleet. She is due to be followed by a third Triton-class vessel in 2025.

Along with the name of the new ship, Disney Cruise Line also released the first renderings of Disney Treasure, and said that the ship would celebrate “Walt Disney’s lifelong love of exploration.”

As an example, the cruise line said Disney Treasure’s Grand Hall would feature a design inspired by “the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace”, which initially sounds similar to the Cinderella-inspired Grand Hall aboard Disney Wish.

The Disney Treasure Grand Hall, however, will draw on real-world influences from Asia and Africa to pay homage to the land of Agrabah – the setting of Disney’s Aladdin movie.

At the centre of the atrium, a statue of Aladdin, Jasmine and their Magic Carpet will form a centrepiece near the stage, much like Cinderella in the Grand Hall aboard Disney Wish.

Disney Treasure will be built by the Meyer Werft shipyard, which also built Disney Wish, and will build the third unnamed vessel in the class as well.

Disney Wish was the first new cruise ship for Disney Cruise Line in nearly ten years, but made up for the wait with a plethora of new at-sea attractions and experiences, from the interactive dining concept Avengers: Quantum Encounter and Star Wars-inspired Hyperspace Lounge, to the cruise line’s first-ever Disney attraction at sea.

The 760-foot water ride soars above the ship and over the water, with animated shorts themed around “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse”.

Similarly exciting features will no doubt be announced for Disney Treasure in the coming months. The ship will be LNG-powered like Disney Wish, and will similarly offer 1,250 guest staterooms across her 140,000 gross tons.
