Disney Wish revealed as new ship leaves building hall in Germany

Disney Wish has been revealed to the world for the first time after the new cruise ship for Disney Cruise Line was floated out of her building hall at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

Disney Wish will now move to the shipyard’s outfitting pier for final interior fit and finish before making her conveyance down the Ems River to depart on her sea trials.

The ship is the first of a three-ship order by Disney Cruise Line, with her sister ships expected to enter service in 2023 and 2025.

It took about five hours and 29 million gallons (110,000 cubic meters) of water from the River Ems to flood the building dock so that Disney Wish could be towed out with only three feet of clearance on either side.

The LNG-powered ship is the largest ever built for Disney Cruise Line thus far, at 144,000-gross tons and carrying more than 2,500 passengers. She will debut in Port Canaveral this summer, sailing roundtrip itineraries to the Caribbean.

Disney Wish will feature restaurants, immersive spaces and experiences themed to Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar characters and adventures, plus the world’s first-ever Disney attraction at sea, with a goal of equally satisfying adults and children alike.

Disney Wish will debut the interactive dining concept Avengers: Quantum Encounter in its World of Marvel restaurant, as well as a variety of new venues for adults, including the fleet’s first outdoor spa retreat, salon and barbershop experiences, and a collection of bars and lounges.

Disney Wish will also offer a new interactive app-based game that gives passengers a new way to explore and experience the ship.

The new Disney Wish experience is called Uncharted Adventure, and is intended to take guests on a multidimensional voyage into the worlds of iconic Disney and Pixar characters.

She’ll also feature the cruise line’s first funnel suite, officially called the Wish Tower Suite, which will be reminiscent of Rapunzel’s tower, but themed to the animated Disney film Moana.

The 1,966 square foot suite will be one of the largest aboard any cruise ship and is designed to sleep up to eight guests, making it a good choice for families – Disney Cruise Line hasn’t said how much it will cost.

In addition to all this, Disney Wish will feature specialty restaurants inspired by Beauty and the Beast, a 760-foot water ride based on the world of Micky and Minnie Mouse, a theatre inspired by Fantasia, an immersive inter-galactic space bar from Star Wars and a central Grand Hall evocative of a fairytale castle, and more.
