Princess Cruises takes delivery of new ship Discovery Princess

Princess Cruises has taken delivery of its new Royal-class cruise ship Discovery Princess from the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

Discovery Princess was delivered on January 28th during an official handover at the shipyard, attended by John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, Captain Gennaro Arma, and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager Merchant Ships Division of Fincantieri.

Discovery Princess has now departed Italy bound for the Port of Los Angeles to sail a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages from March 27th to April 24th, 2022.

She’ll then reposition up the Pacific coast to begin a season of seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle for the summer.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Princess Cruises as we officially take ownership of the spectacular Discovery Princess,” said John Padgett, President, Princess Cruises. “We extend our immense gratitude to our long-time and trusted partners at Fincantieri, the shipbuilders of all six of our Royal-Class vessels with Discovery Princess and look forward to welcoming our first guests to experience the beauty of the ship when they embark in just a few weeks.”

Discovery Princess

The 3,660-guest Discovery Princess is the sixth and final Royal-Class newbuild and shares the style and luxury of her sister ships – Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess – but with a few ‘evolutions’.

The ship offers many of the line’s signature experiences, including the adults-only Sanctuary, three-deck-high Piazza atrium and Movies Under the Stars, as well as Sky Suites, which feature the line’s largest balconies.

About the Sky Suites

Each Sky Suite features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a dining area with a skylight. At over 1,000 square feet, the largest balconies at sea offer guests a 270-degree view from the top of the ship, plus a private view of Movies Under the Stars.

It will also be fully equipped with OceanMedallion and boasts French bistro-style dining with a modern twist at Bistro Sur La Mer, created with Chef Emmanuel Renaut, whose Flocons de Sel restaurant has received three Michelin stars.

Sky Suite

As part of the six-ship Royal-class order that Discovery Princess now completes, the cruise line also rolled out a new dining feature called Dine My Way, which makes it easy for guests to pre-plan and tailor their dining experiences.

It pairs with the OceanNow on demand service to offer dining flexibility and convenience through the company’s MedallionClass platform, enabling guests to make reservations in onboard dining rooms and specialty restaurants at times they prefer and with whom they wish to dine.
