Marella Explorer emerges from major refit and refurbishment

The refit and refurbishment of Marella Explorer in Spain has been completed, with UK interior design firm Trimline having acted as the main outfitter for the project.

Marella Explorer entered dry dock in Puerto Real, Spain in December last year and underwent a major overhaul, with new lighting installed, new carpets and soft furnishings and upgrades to key public spaces.

In a press release, Trimline said its 80-strong team of floor layers, decorators, joiners, upholsterers, tilers, electricians, french polishers, welders and hard surface repairers completed a complex refurbishment of the Main Restaurant (Latitude & Vista) and other spaces.

The refit took four weeks to complete and included the installation of a lighting system that is 15 percent more efficient than standard LED drivers.

Trimline said changing the existing lighting over to this system saves 130 Tonnes of Co2 per year.

The Indigo club aboard Marella Explorer also now has a new LED dancefloor, while all loose seats and sofas in the Mediterranean Bar have been recovered.

The Squid & Anchor, The Hideout, the Attic, Umi Sushi, Coffee Port, the main lounge, Bar 53, and The Shack have all also been refurbished, along with the Pool Deck, Cinema, Broadway Show Lounge, Destination Services, and Cruise Holiday Store.

Some 60 of the ship’s cabins were also re-carpeted.

This refit and refurbishment comes just two years after the ship’s most recent overhaul, which in 2019 saw a number of improvements made to her public spaces, including new designs and layouts to improve the passenger experience.

The refurbishment of Marella Explorer is the latest work to be done on a Marella cruise ship by Trimline, the firm also worked on the refit of her sister ship Marella Explorer 2, which was thoroughly refurbished in October, 2019.

The firm was also a key player in the most recent refurbishments of Marella Discovery and Marella Discovery 2.

“Trimline’s team did a great job during the latest update onboard the Marella Explorer with fantastic project management skills,” said Marella Cruises Hotel Refurbishment Manager, Matt Easton.

Marella Explorer is spending her winter cruise season in the Canary Islands, sailing 7-night roundtrip cruises from Gran Canaria and Tenerif that alternate between the two homeports.
