Dubai shore excursions: The Pointe

At the $800-million The Pointe development on The Palm Jumeirah Island in Dubai you’ll find restaurants, shops and The Palm Fountain, the largest of its kind in the world.

Located on Palm Jumeirah, the island adjacent the new Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal, The Pointe is an upscale shopping and entertainment destination that opened in 2018 and is home to a 1.5-kilometre promenade with views of The Palm Fountains on either side.

This 1.4-million sq ft area offers 100 restaurants, bars and shops, as well as the popular Reel Cinemas Dine-in Cinema by Guy Fieri.

From almost anywhere there are spectacular views of the famous Atlantis The Palm, which dominates the top of the Crescent that surrounds the Trunk and Fronds of the Palm island.

The Palm Fountain is the world’s largest fountain, performing choreographed dancing water shows every night of the week, its spread over 14,000 sq ft of sea water and reaches 105m in the air.

As well as being the largest fountain in the world, it’s also the only multi-coloured fountain in Dubai, featuringmore than 3,000 LED lights.

When it comes to shops and restaurants, there are burger joints, seafood markets, Chinese eateries and Italian cuisine on offer, such as Chuan, Hook & Cook and Samakjé.

Mura is a popular Italian restaurant that takes diners to the Amalfi Coast with its immersive decor and evening tarantella dances. If you’re cruising to Dubai in a group, enjoy the 1kg salt-crusted sea bass or 1kg baked seam.

There’s also the Indian fusion restaurant and bar A Cappella, and if you enjoy a good Instagram spot, check out Brunch & Cake, or the top Lebanese restaurant Al Safadi.

Bars at The Pointe include A Cappella and Kyo, as well as late-night venues Phantom House and Chalet Berezka.

The Pointe also features plenty of fun for families and children as well, such as the huge Fun Fair and play area at its tip, where little ones can enjoy slides, trampolines and climbers.

For cruise tourists spending a day or evening in Dubai, it’s a great choice, but if you’re looking for something a little more active, there are also aqua-based adventures on offer from The Yellow Boats, such as water sports and sightseeing tours of the island by yacht.
