Royal Caribbean to offer vegan menu in main dining room ahead of Dubai season

Royal Caribbean is rolling out a vegan menu for its main dining room fleet wide this month, which means passengers cruising aboard Jewel of the Seas from Dubai for the coming cruise season will be able to enjoy it as well.

The vegan menu for the main dining room was introduced on August 1st, with all 26 Royal Caribbean ships adopting the new menu options as they return to port from their current cruises.

Vegan options have been offered in the Windjammer buffet for some time, but will now be available in the main dining room as well

The move makes Royal Caribbean one of the first mass-market lines to cater to vegans with a dedicated menu in its main dining room.

While Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, and Azamara have all recently rolled out vegan menus on their ships, all three lines are in the premium or luxury sectors of the cruise market.

Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian have all offered vegan options in the buffet restaurants, and the main dining room to some extent, for several years, but Royal Caribbean is the first to offer a full menu.

Some of the dishes on the menu include edamame-stuffed portobello mushrooms, vegan spaghetti “bolognaise” and orzo pasta stew with green vegetables.

There are also vegan dessert options, like toffee “cheesecake” with dark chocolate and a peanut butter crust according to Cruise Critic.

These new options and the existing vegan foods on offer in the Windjammer buffet restaurant will continue to be available, giving vegan passengers the choice between buffet style or formal dining.

For Jewel of the Seas during her coming Dubai cruise season, the vegan menu will provide Middle East cruise passengers with a de facto halal dining option, something that has been highlighted as a concern by potential passengers in the past.

While all the cruise lines homeporting in Dubai offer halal dining options, none offer a dedicated menu as yet, so this will be a welcome alternative for many Middle East passengers.

Jewel of the Seas will cruise roundtrip from Dubai between November, 2019 and March, 2020, on 7-day cruises in the Arabian Gulf, visiting Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas Island, Doha, Bahrain, Khassab and Muscat.

She is the largest cruise ship that Royal Caribbean has homeported in Dubai since Brilliance of the Seas back in 2013.
