Phoenix Reisen steps up Cape Town cruises in 2019 with Amadea and Albatros

German cruise line Phoenix Reisen will cruise from Cape Town three times in the coming 2018/2019 season, once with Amadea in 2018 and twice in 2019 with its cruise ship Albatros.

Amadea’s November 14th cruise from Cape Town in 2018 will be a 15-night cruise to Mauritius visiting all of South Africa’s key cruise ports, as well as Maputo and Fort Dauphine.

This cruise can also be booked as much longer 39-night cruise to Villefranche (Nice), France.

Albatros, meanwhile, will cruise twice from Cape Town in late 2019.

The first cruise, from Cape Town to Mahe in the Seychelles, departs October 22nd, 2019 and also calls at all the major South African cruise ports and most of the island nations in the Indian Ocean over the course of 16 nights.

The second cruise, on November 22nd, is a 26-night cruise from Cape Town to Monaco, also aboard Albatros.

This cruise calls at 10 ports, many of them along the West African coast, including Walvis Bay, Lüderitz, Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Gambia and the Atlantic islands of  Sao Tome and Principe and the Canary Islands.

Phoenix Reisen is a German cruise line, targeting German speaking cruise markets exclusively. All on-board information is in German, along with entertainment and public announcements.

For the intrepid English cruise passenger looking for something different, however, it can be a great opportunity to immerse oneself in a different culture for a few weeks and experience a unique cruise experience in the South African market.

International passengers that have cruised with Phoenix Reisen report that the cruise line does translate the daily program and dinner menus into the desired language of the guests, while an English speaking tour guide will usually be included on shore excursions booked by English guests.

Phoenix Reisen Cruises also tends to be popular with ‘ship buff’ cruise passengers, thanks to its classic cruise ship fleet.

Amadea is a 1991-built classic little cruise ship accommodating just 600 passengers. At 193m she is one of the smaller cruise ships in the modern fleet.

Albatros is a little larger at 205m, and with a passenger capacity of 920. She was built in 1973 and was most recently refurbished in 2010. She is a classic cruise liner with none of the bells and whistles associated with modern cruise ships.
